Communities react to historic Indigenous rights referendum in Australia

"It's like we have been forgotten," says Peggy Slater, an Indigenous resident of Binjari, which is home to over 300 Aboriginal people. She hopes that most of her community vote "yes" on a historic October 14 referendum on Aboriginal rights, in the so-called Voice referendum, which would give Indigenous Australians the constitutional right to be consulted on policies that affect them.
